ACCEPT Tour begins Saturday with benefit for Kenya Feed-a-Smile

Dubhna Rhiadra addresses Audience at ACCEPT Premiere
Thanks to a patient audience, and with little help from the stability of the grid, ACCEPT opened last weekend after a delayed start time.  Out gratitude for the faithful audience who waited and were able to stay in while SL was randomly booting people out ... including members of the company!

This week we move out, boldly onto the grid as ACCEPT moves on tour, starting with a benefit performance at Lavender Fields - a region which raises money for Kenya Feed-a-Smile.

Kenya Feed-a-Smile has provided over 96,000 individual meals to children in need in Kenya since the project began.  That's virtual concerts, live musicians, storytelling, and performances just like IBC's this Saturday.  Literally, Second Life events with Real World benefits, L$100 at a time (that's how many donations it takes to provide a single meal.).

Join Independent Ballet at Saturday's performance to support this wonderful humitarian effort, led in SL by Brique Topaz.

Be sure and check out our "Audience Tips" tab to help make your audience experience more comfy for you, and fellow guests.

In ACCEPT, four young women struggle with their sense of self and their place in the world around them.  They are united by one thing - their love of dance.

There is Amy, danced and voiced by Annamaria Manatiso.  Amy comes from a poor but loving, and supportive home.  She struggles with her self confidence, knowing she’s a talented dancer, but embarrassed by the second hand, and often badly worn dance gear she wears by necessity because of her family’s financial challenges.

There is Celine Clare (called “CC”), danced and voiced by Dubhna Rhiadra.  CC also comes from a supportive home – one based on activism and being true to your beliefs.  CC is her parent’s child, as she questions the norms of teen peer judgments by choosing her own path.

There is Emma, danced by Deadly Deed and voiced by Caledonia Skytower.  Emma is a talented, hardworking dancer. She finds herself living on the streets after her loving grandmother, who has had custody of her since the death of her parents, dies suddenly.

There is Phoebe Tiana, danced and voiced by Deyna Broek.  She has grown up with all the advantages resources, and the inspiration of a prima ballerina mother, but she struggles with a low self-image.  She has the desire, even the talent, but fears that she just doesn’t “have the genes.”

ACCEPT  follows the journey of all four as they face their unique challenges, and each look at those around them - making judgments and observing the world around them, seeing only barriers.

~ “She doesn’t look right.  She shouldn’t be here.”
~ “Who wants to see a fat girl dance?  She shouldn’t be here.”
~ “If she ain’t gonna work, she shouldn’t be here.”
                                           ~ “ . . . I have no home.  I shouldn’t be here.”

Something sparks between these girls, and they challenge those barriers, embracing their diversity, and tearing down the walls that separate them. They come together and begin to see their world as larger than themselves; learning lessons of tolerance, compassion, and empathy as they come of age as dancers, and as women.

Based on an original concept by IBC's Deyna Broek, ACCEPT is set in our times, features a mix of ballet and modern dance styles, and IBC's signature blending of solo and group-synced performance.  Independent Ballet is committed to collaborative creativity in the expression and sharing of stories through original virtual dance productions.
